Mission October - Phillies vs. Padres, Game Four

Starting Wes Helms in game three paid off for the Phillies.  Helms came through with 3 hits and drove in 2 runs.  Helms is on the bench for defensive reasons in game four, with sinkerballer Jamie Moyer on the mound.  The Padres season is in the hands of rookie Jack Cassel, who draws the start but will likely have a very short leash if there are signs of trouble.  Marcus Giles draws the rare start at 2B vs. the lefty Moyer.

The lineups for game four:

Philadelphia
SS Rollins

Jimmy Rollins got it started for Philadelphia.  In the 1st, he singled, stole 2B, advanced to 3B on Kevin Kouzmanoff’s error and then scored on Ryan Howard’s slow groundout.

Aaron Rowand drove in a run with a single in the 3rd.  In the bottom of the frame, Marcus Giles made the most of his opportunity.  Giles singled, then advanced to 3B on a attempted steal when Carlos Ruiz threw the ball into CF.  Giles later scored on Jack Cassel’s slow grounder to SS.

Adrian Gonzalez hit his third home run of the series in the 6th inning, to tie the game 2-2.  The Phillies added three runs in the 7th on Shane Victorino and Pat Burrell sacrifice flies.

In the 9th, Aaron Rowand added an insurance run.  Jamie Moyer goes 8 1/3 strong innings giving up only 5 hits.  JC Romero gets the final two outs and the Phillies advance to the NLCS!

Adrian Gonzalez was named series MVP in a losing cause, after hitting 3 HR and driving in 5.
